The German Book Office New York at BookExpo America 2013

A week ago, the German Book Office New York had our very own booth at BookExpo America (BEA) 2013, representing both the Frankfurt Book Fair as well as our office here in New York. BEA is the largest publishing gathering in North America, bringing in more than 1,000 exhibitors, hundreds of authors, and upwards of 2,000 media professionals. Riky Stock, Director of the German Book Office New York and Manager of the Literary Agents & Scouts Center, Thomas Minkus, VP Emerging Media and English-Language Markets, Michelle Turnbach, Sales Manager, English-Language World, Katja Warmuth, Sales Manager, English-Language World, Hans Anders, STM & Specialist Information, and Hannah Johnson, Deputy Publisher of Publishing Perspectives, all had meetings at the booth over the course of the three-day event.

The stand had a different layout from years past, but it seemed to work, drawing people to stop by and check out the children’s book rights lists over the course of the conferece.

Several editors who will be traveling to Germany with Riky Stock next week for the annual German Book Office Editors Trip stopped by the booth to meet each other and learn more about the great trip they’ll be taking to visit German publishing professionals.

There were also a couple of not-so-small gatherings at Booth 1664, namely a wine reception on Thursday afternoon, and a cupcake reception early Friday afternoon.

We had plenty of visitors and some new connections were made with the help of delicious wine and tasty cupcakes. The receptions were both graciously sponsored by Lufthansa, and there was a representative there explaining how to use the special offer to get to the Book Fair.

All in all, the German Book Office enjoyed a couple of days out of the office at BookExpo America, and everyone is excited now for the upcoming Editors Trip and the fall fair in Frankfurt.
